When it Rains it Pours

It has done almost nothing but rain since the beginning of September; on Monday, September 1, we had 2 1/2 inches in a little over an hour, which washed out our lower driveway. Read about how we maintain our dirt driveway here, but when the rain is that intense there is little you can do with that volume of water except do your best. Tropical storm Lowell is off the west coast of Mexico and headed our way, as Hurricane Ike is headed toward Sea Aggie-land, Galveston, in what is looking more and more like a reprise of Hurricane Rita in 2005. My son has already evacuated. Looks like Ireland here. In fact we've had so much rain that a few of our garden vegetable plants look as if they are beginning to get root rot from too much water, not enough sun. Since we don't have a clothes dryer (and I don't want one, either), hanging up the laundry has also become problematic. But I'm not complaining!

Well, it is now official: Palin is either a Dominionist or a fellow traveler, by the churches she has been involved with. Folks, there is a reason I am harping on this issue (and really, I don't care whose baby Trig is, and whether or not she really was for the "Bridge to Nowhere" before she was against it...or is it the other way around?..or how many moose or bear or harp seal or whatever she has gunned down from a plane). Dominionists want state power. Why, when Christ's Kingdom is not of this world? Easy. Don't think of it as a bunch of well-meaning Christians wanting to straighten out society. Think of it as a bunch of power-mad charismatic fundamentalists wanting to do to the USA what the Ayatollas are doing in Iran. What the Wahabiists have done in Saudi Arabia. Think of it as fanatical right-wing Theo-nazis getting their people onto the Supreme Court to put the torch to the First Amendment "establishment clause" and ultimately to the Constitution itself, replacing it with the Ten Commandments mixed with the anti-Christian Noahide Laws (which forbid one to worship Christ as God, because "there is only one God" and worshipping Christ is "idolatry", the penalty of which is death), to end abortion rights (not that I favor abortion rights, but you must remember that before Roe vs. Wade women still had abortions, only then under very unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Folks, overturning Roe v. Wade WILL NOT END ABORTIONS IN THE US!), to take away women's sufferage (under Dominionism, women DO NOT have the right to vote), to bring about a bigoted, hyper-jingoist society where people will be afraid to wear what they want, to hear the music they want, and to keep their religion. THIS INCLUDES JEWS! In fact, if you remember what happened during Prohibition, just kick that up a few hundred notches to see what the result will be. People will behave the way they want to anyway (it is well known that in Iran women make light of their head scarves in Tehran and other big cities, poo-poo-ing the "moral police"), but will just do it underground as with the speak-easys. Our own Behavior Police, similar to what they have in Saudi Arabia, will make "examples" out of a few well-known non-conformists (should I be honored if I am one of them? For Christ's name, yes!) but will not be able to do much about the rest, and, in fact, will be the recruiting tool for atheists the like which they have never had! Now you might say, "Come on, Deb, you are really going to extremes this time!" But as long as President Palin has the power of Executive Orders to institute Jesus Camp USA, she might.

"President Palin you say"? Yes, I say, because, number one, Obama is already blowing it with his wishy-washy positions, flip-flopping, picking a yucky guy like Biden, owned by Brzezinsky, yadda yadda yadda. (I don't mean that BS polling done by Gallup, CBS, and USA Today showing McCain is ahead, either, because the polling was rigged to favor Republicans.) And number two, McCain doesn't need to worry about polls and the like, because Diebold will hand him the election. Why? Because it will be close, and if it is close the voting machine rigging will work, and the voting machines have been (for eight years) rigged by Republicans. Why do you think CNN and the rest of the MSM are so enamored of Palin? Because they know the fix is already in! Despite Obama's flip-flops and the rest, any person with any pulse on the USA knows folks are tired of Republicans, who have totally freaked up the economy. Remember, it isn't what we want--it is what THEY want and THEY want McCain, pure and simple. Sorry for the bad juju here, but get used to it: McCain will "win" the election. (If I am wrong, I will happily apologize for making that statement.) And, number three, I believe it is possible that McCain, whose health is not the best for sure, will be "asked" to "step-down" as President for Palin to take over. Palin may be clueless on most issues but on trying to turn the US into a watered down theocracy there can be almost no doubt: she'll "clean up America" all right! But, as Christ said, while the outside of the bowl will be clean the inside will be something else entirely (Matthew 23:25-26). Dominionism wants power, not a truly Christian America, full of love for fellow man (see Matthew 5, the Sermon on the Mount). It could be there'll be more hatred per square foot of the US than has ever existed, including the Civil War (or the War of Northern Agression, whichever you prefer). Read also Juan Cole's article entitled, "What's the Difference Between Palin and Muslim Fundamentalists? Lipstick" here.

But, why should I worry (or you, for that matter, if you are making the necessary preparations, physically and/or spiritually, to live outside the matrix)? If McCain-Palin wins, they will oversee the destruction of the economy that is only partially their making, take the blame for it, and be the death of the Republican Party as we have known it for several years--good for us. If Obama-Biden wins, they will oversee the destruction of the economy that is only partially of their making (and maybe a race war?), take the blame for it, and be the death of the Democrat Party--good for us. What Carrie Nation did for Prohibition (made it so hated that the 18th Amendment was repealed by the 21st, about 15 years later), Sara Palin will do for Dominionism, and, if we are really lucky, Taliban-like Christian Fundamentalism as well. Good riddance to bad doctrine.

Moving on, according to Backwoods Home Magazine, in order to find an affordable home (assuming TSHTF and you want an "escape hatch"), one has to do three things: avoid the west, where most available land is owned by the government or Native reservations, avoid where Californians are moving (because they can seel houses for upwards of half-a-mil, and use that money to drive up housing prices in areas they move to), and (to quote the article), "Look at a map and find areas where there are no cities. In general, if people can't commute to a city from the area, the prices are lower." Seeing as how where I live fits that description, I can honestly say I agree with the article's advice! In fact, Texas has a far smaller amount of government-owned land than people realize. I suspect that is because we used to be a whole other country. There are few Californians moving here, and the nearest large cities are El Paso to the west and Midland-Odessa to the northeast, with each metro area being roughly 150 to 200 miles away.

Let me add to this list:

  • Move where the CC&R's (Covenants and Restrictions) are the most lenient.

  • Move where you can put in your own water well

  • Move where you can hunt for food on your own property, or fish

  • Move to an area where, if you need a job, you should be able to find one. This might leave out huge portions of the rust belt or central midwest in areas with seriously dying towns (Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota come to mind)

  • Move to an area that is fairly close to a college or university...you might find that you need to go back to school. Some potential jobs need actual hands-on training you simply can't get online

  • Move to an area that has milder winters but cooler summers, or at least one of these (if you want both, you almost have to move out where I am in far west Texas/Carlsbad area of east New Mexico, that is the Davis or Guadalupe Mountains, or southwest New Mexico near Las Cruces, a city with everything you might expect from El Paso without the huge population. Why? Because these areas get enough rain and have enough available aquifer water to support your water needs off the water grid. Move to desert west Texas (east Culberson and Hudspeth Counties, and the high plains section between Marfa and Presidio, Texas; New Mexico (Malpais area); or Arizona and you will have water issues, because Phoenix, Albuquerque, and El Paso usually get most of the dibs on water.

  • Move to within 50 miles of decent food and other shopping, so you can cover all your shopping and errands in one day and not spend the farm on gasoline, because your gas WILL cost more "out here"

  • If you MUST have close access to seashore, you might be able to find land on the Gulf Coast that is still under some kind of reconstruction from Katrina and other hurricanes...if, that is, you can stand the thought of dealing with...hurricanes! Or, you can move to the Bahamas. Places like Nassau (Providence Island) do get some hurricane damage--I've seen it--but being small islands fairly widely separated means that while the wind-rain forces are heavy, the hurricane passes over quickly and the damage is more widely spread out. Besides, the more populated Bahama islands haven't been ecologically damaged like, say, Haiti, where hurricanes do huge amounts of damage due to deforestation.

  • Survival Blog mentions in passing a very important fact should we all encounter that worst case scenario of dealing with hordes of potential looters: find a place with limited access, so that if things get so bad that almost everyone becomes a potential looter, your community can round up groups of watch people with guns. Mountain areas, of course, make this even easier.

In the span of four days I have seen one of the best recent movies ever, and one of the worst recent movies ever. First, the bad news: "Borat" (to heck with the rest of the title), is not only racist, sexist, close to being pornographic (it is NOT for your children!), anti-Semitic, anti-everything decent, it makes fun of "rednecks" (hey, only I can make fun of rednecks! I'm kidding!...) being jingoistic idiots (some, even quite a few, are, but I think even "the white working class" is waking up now...despite what the MSM wants you to believe, Palin-worship is NOT universal among these voters...I know this for a fact), makes fun of Jews in every way imaginable (including the "running of the Jews" in Khazakstan), makes fun of cowboys and rural culture, and, worst of all, makes fun of Khazakstan and it's people and national anthem. I would really like to know what Khazakstan has done to Sacha Baron Cohen to merit such sickening treatment. Yeah, I know this was a parody of something, but it was a very bad one, with few laughs even. Now the good news: the anti-fascist movie, "V for Vendetta," is now on mainstream movie channels (that you don't have to pay extra for, such as HBO); "FX" showed it Wednesday night. This is a "must-see" movie. Most of the reviews I have read on the libertarian sites mostly deal with V's dialog about "the government should fear their citizens and the citizens should never fear the government" type stuff, and the rather long section on how V "tortured" Evie, who thought she was captured by the state and sent to some sort of re-education camp, where "Valerie" passed her letters about how the state destroyed gay relationships, etc. Many reviewers thought what V did was terrible. I beg to differ. Folks, the ONLY way to get over your fear of the government is to undergo government abuse and then become stronger for it: if it can come all at one (rather long) fell swoop like mine did, the better (I will discuss what the Clintonista-era local government did to me later). I maintain that the ONLY way the American people will stop the crapola BushCo and his successors are dishing out is if all of us are screwed until it hurts, until we can no longer remain in denial. It will take more than forcing taxpayers present and future to bail out Fannie-Freddie (and, yes, I am royally pissed about it!). But the one thing I got out of this movie that I consider crucial to defeating THEM is the very not-so-subtle idea that the government of V's Britain became the totalitarian state it is based on fear, using several 9-11-like events to carry it out. Yes, that's right: the main message Americans can get from "V for Vendetta" is that the US government was complicit in the attacks on Septemeber 11, 2001.
