The weather is great out here: mostly sunny, temperatures in the 60s and 70s; there's water in the rain barrels for the garden and the grasshoppers are fewer this year...but it's just as tricky catching them. I've had to keep the collards covered with gallon jars...grasshoppers love collards for some reason. Our mother cat and kitten help out there, though. If I had a digital camera I'd upload a picture of Sassy and Neko. (Neko is Japanese for "cat"). And at night it gets a wee bit chilly. You could say I'm "chillin' out" here up in the mountains while the denizens of Wall Street get burned...oh yeah, that's right. They are getting "bailed out," and "Main Street" is getting burned. Nice to know a few hundred or thousand folks are picketing Wall Street and the White House over this. There is also supposed to be a "Trillion Dollar March" at the Capitol Building on the 27th, which was yesterday. And, you know what? The first one, on Wall Street, was spontaneously organized within a couple of days using social group sites like FaceBook and MySpace. In other words, "tool" or "control the opposition" organizations like MoveOn.org are already irrelevant. When organizations like Democracy Now! become irrelevant, we the People will have really made progress! As far as I'm concerned the numbers here aren't the issue--the spontaneity is! |

In case you are not aware of it, An army unit which is coming home from Iraq will, beginning October 1, be stationed in one or more cities on the streets in this country. Prior to the 2005 Military Commissions/Defense Authorization Acts, we had something called a Posse Comitatus Act which forbade military units from being used against US citizens, which is why we have things like the National Guard and state militias. On the face of it, this is overkill...even in some rural areas, police units are militarized to the hilt. We saw some of that during the Republic of Texas Standoff: helicopters blaring discordant and cacophonous sounds at 3 am, all types of light weapons, body armor and the like. Even a military vehicle or two, such as the ones used on the El Dorado FLDS folks. In this Glenn Greenwald article based on an original post on Army Times, this unit, for about a year (to be replaced by another unit), will be stationed in the US in case of economic crisis. You don't have to read between the lines to know that what is referred to here are the absolutely likely events of social and civil unrest. You know, while not speaking such a thing, the government fully, and logically, expects it. When it is going to cost every taxpayer many thousands to fund the bailout of Bear Stearns, Fannie and Freddy, AIG and any other future bailout--you KNOW they are not finished with this!--while taxpayers get virtually nothing in return. This is in a United States where over half the taxpayers EXPECT their government to "take care" of them with all sorts of benefits, from Social Security to Medicare to Food Stamps to Student Grants to yadda yadda yadda. And this is especially true for folks like us, who pay taxes and get almost nothing in return (we are too young for Social Security/Medicare, too healthy for Disability, too wealthy for Food Stamps/Medicaid, and too poor to get a Wall Street-like bailout!). We don't even have our school-aged child in public school! And we still pay School Taxes! Anyway, since the government is "expecting" social unrest, folks, I expect these "expectations" will be fulfilled! Let's hope it's non-violent civil disobedience. Any reader disagreeing with this should not throw Romans 13 and 1 Peter 2 at me. I have debunked that BS about we MUST "obey" "civil authority," even when it is harsh. Only those lacking discernment to know that our CIVIL AUTHORITY IS THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION, NOT "PRESIDENT" BUSH (who stold the elections) would expect us to obey a coming UNLAWFUL fascist dictatorship, when our Constitution ALLOWS us to abolish unconstitutional government! When our "elected" Congress critters, who have abrogated our civil authority at every turn (as one of those, Ron Paul, keeps reminding us). If you honestly think God wants us to obey a CREW OF CRIMINAL PSYCHOPATHS, then...well, I'm not sure I can help you there. In fact I have seen opinions on several sites claiming the elections will be cancelled because of "economic crisis". But I think the elections will go on as they can very easily rig the voting machines to elect McCain-Palin. Either way, we need to prepare, and, if you are chillin' out like I am, you may get to avoid the worst of it. We might only lose some money. |

But folks, there is always hope that things won't get that bad or that things will get bad but we as remnant individuals and families can get through it okay or even fine. Think of the Great Depression, when many folks had hardships but got out of it fine...but, you say, folks during the Great Depression were more morally upstanding, were more closely tied to community, were just plain "nicer" and had higher ethical and spiritual standards. Besides, people saved money back then. But there were still many who lost it all, many losing in foreclosures, bank runs, lost jobs, or cut their food spending to the bone. Politicians were just as crooked then as they are now. We have hurricanes now wiping out large and smaller cities, but they had "the dust bowl" which sent millions to California (to be exploited, as with "The Grapes of Wrath" and the Woody Guthrie movie, "Bound for Glory"). The only major difference is that back then the US government was more fiscally responsible than it is now (in fact I don't think any government has been more fiscally irresponsible than ours, ever). |

What got me started on this was an amazing, to me anyway, event that happened last Sunday. A football game, would you believe. (Note: and then this week Oregon State beat USC!) What makes this game so special (to me at least) is that the very worst NFL team of 2007, and maybe in NFL history, beat the very best team in 2007, and, before the loss in the Super Bowl, perhaps the best in NFL history, scoring nearly 600 pts. while giving up just over 100 pts. In fact, the New England Patriots usually had a two-touchdown lead before the other team knew what hit 'em. The Miami Dolphins, on the other hand, went 1-15, went through several different quarterbacks, and only won that one game in overtime because that was the game of the reunion of the 1972 unbeatens. Well, as you may have heard by now, not only did the Fins beat the Pats, they clobbered the Pats, 38-13! Tom Brady, the Pats QB, was injured, but that probably didn't matter except the score might have been 38-20 or something. It wasn't just an upset...it was a "wildcat" strike so to speak. Coach Tony Soprano---er, Sparano--had his guys come up with their version of the University of Arkansas "Wildcat" offense (and I don't know enough about it to get technical), but it results in a play style that confuses opposing defenses. (See this link to watch how this worked in the game last week). Ronnie Brown, a talented but often injured running back, not only faked so well to run for four touchdowns, he also threw a pass for another! When I saw the score on the Fox Sports site I almost fell out of my chair! It wasn't just a game, it was inspiring! We must not give up hope that in the end, things will all work out, that "we the people" can turn it around against all odds. |

The following videos reflect the main issue discussed this week, economic melt down and the possible consequences. Plus I put up a video about a New Zealand cartoonist who is being persecuted for his political views in a way that I would not have expected from the New Zealand media heads. From US media heads, yes...
